Building frontline capability as retail evolves
How Revlon made practical product and sales development accessible to its teams, wherever they work.
Revlon is a global leader in cosmetics, hair colour, fragrances, skincare and beauty care products. It has continued to evolve alongside its customers, and its approach to developing people has evolved too.
Revlon National Training Manager Christina Fairhurst talks about the importance of keeping development relevant as retail and customer expectations change.
“We need to make sure that we are constantly evolving. The way that we communicate and engage with our customers needs to change as they change.”
The challenge
With teams working across different locations, Revlon needed a consistent and accessible way to develop its people. Traditionally, Revlon relied heavily on face-to-face training, which was becoming increasingly expensive and difficult to deliver across a geographically dispersed workforce. Revlon needed a way to give frontline teams access to the product knowledge and practical skills they needed, wherever they worked.
The solution
Revlon partnered with RedSeed to develop tailored online training for its teams working across department stores and makeup counters. The content gave Revlon teams a flexible way to build their knowledge and skills, wherever they were working. Christina explains that development at Revlon goes beyond product knowledge.
“It's not just about product knowledge. It's about selling skills, how to engage with the customer, skin typing, merchandising, and everything they need to know to work on a Revlon counter.”
Making development accessible
Making development easy to access was also important for Revlon's teams.
“Our people live on phones and mobile devices.”
Giving people access to development on the devices they already use made it easier for learning to fit around the realities of working in retail.
Building capability as retail evolves
For Revlon, development is about more than keeping product knowledge current. Its teams need the skills to engage with customers, sell confidently, merchandise effectively and deliver the experience customers expect. By making that development more accessible across its workforce, Revlon can continue building frontline capability as retail and customer expectations evolve. Read more customer stories.
