LinkedIn surveyed approximately 4,000 professionals globally to provide a holistic view of modern workplace learning. Here at RedSeed, we’ve pulled together the three major takeaways from the report for you.

MANAGER INVOLVEMENT IS ONE OF THE MAJOR KEYS TO SUCCESS

  • The survey demonstrated just how crucial manager involvement is for increasing employee engagement. Once managers have bought into a learning and development process or software, that is filtered down through the business to everyone else.
  • 56% of research participants stated they would take a training course suggested by their manager but talent developers said their #2 challenge is increasing and encouraging managers to be involved in training directed out of head office.
  • The main takeaway here is: that if you want better cut through in training, then work to engage your managers and look for a system or training design that allows you to utilise the skills of your Managers as Coaches.

DIGITAL LEARNING CONTINUES TO LEAD THE WAY

  • 90% of companies included in the report offer digital learning! This is great to hear. The survey showed that talent developers are relying on online learning solutions more than ever before.
  • It is incredibly important for knowledge retention to learn in small increments regularly, rather than in a one-day workshop.
  • 58% said they prefer to learn at their own pace via online methods and 49% prefer to learn at the point of need (just in time).
  • The 90% currently offering digital learning is meeting the diverse, multi-generational workforce right where it’s needed. There’s no turning back now!

EVERYBODY WANTS MORE HOURS IN THE DAY

  • So you have an awesome LMS set up for the company – that’s great! The report has shown that the #1 challenge talent developers encounter once going digital is getting employees to actually make time for learning.
  • But what do you do when your trainees aren’t taking the time to actually work through? You have to allocate that time for them. Allocating 25-30 minutes just once a week will reduce the friction and leave employees feeling valued and invested in.
  • 94% of employees said they would stay with their current company if only they invested in training and 68% prefer to learn at work.
